Shireoaks History Trail

Thanks to our friends at the Shireoaks History Society and the Friends of Woodlands, there is a local history trail around the village, it takes about an hour to walk it and features some of the places in the village. Many Scouts learn map reading, I did when I was eight, try your hand and take the family on an enjoyable route.

It Starts are Shireoaks Marina (1), follows the canal towpath, and a short bit of road to the Colliery Memorial (2), you then head back down Shireoaks Road and turn left by the Old Mill (3) down Spring Lane and then branch off right passing Hall Farm and onto Shireoaks Hall (4) walking between the ponds to St Lukes Church (5), making your way up Shireoaks Row to the Railway station (6) pausing to look at the Chesterfield Canal, follow the track east next railway (east) passing the Marina on your Right Branch Left and follow the track to the Viewpoint.

Did you enjoy the walk how did you get on?

If you prefer please follow this link to an OS Map View.

Please visit our village page and have a look to see how many of the places you can find.
